In what could be the most surprising news of the week - it turns out that actors Laila Morse and Gary Oldman are siblings!

Yep, after all these years a whole host of people (including us) have had our tiny minds blown when discovering that the two screen icons are brother and sister.

The revelation that Morse - who’s best known for playing 'Big Mo' Harris in Eastenders - and Academy Award winner Oldman are related, came to light when TikTok user @martha_madden4 posted a video with the caption 'two actors I refuse to believe that they are siblings’.

This was followed up with a number of images featuring both Oldman as Sirius and Morse in character on Albert Square.

As you can probably imagine, the comments section quickly went wild with shock and disbelief as people flocked to express the absolute shock that they never knew about the familial connection before.

One person said: "Hold up what I literally had no idea.” A second added: “No this is a lie. I'm living in the matrix surely this cannot be true my whole world has been rocked,” while a third wrote: "Legitimately had to Google it because I was shook.” Me too.

As people added their responses in the comments, it also emerged that Oldman was married to none other than Kill Bill badass Uma Thurman - leading to even more shock.

"Okay so at one point in time Uma Thurman's sister-in-law was Mo from Eastenders... incredible,” someone observed.

Just in case you were pondering why the pair have different surnames, the answer is, they actually don’t, and Laila Morse is just a stage name for Maureen Oldman.

And in yet another twist in the tale, apparently the name Laila Morse was suggested to Maureen by Italian actress Isabella Rossellini - when she was dating Gary - and is an anagram of ‘mia sorella’ the Italian for ‘my sister’.

In February, it was announced that 75-year-old Laila is actually set to leave Eastenders after more than 20 years on the show.

Her departure is set to air this spring although a spokesperson for the show has already said that this isn’t necessarily the last time we’ll see Laila in character…

The spokesperson said: "Just like many occasions before, Big Mo will be departing Walford but as always she'll no doubt be back in the not too distant future.”
