There's A Calculated Reason That Five Guys Gives You So Many Fries With Your Order
There's a cunning reason behind Five Guys' extremely generous chip portions...
If you've ever treated yourself to a glorious Five Guys, you've likely noticed that the fast-food chain is overly generous with their chip portions.
While the likes of Maccies and KFC can be a little stingy with their side of chips, you'll find Five Guys is the complete opposite.
But apparently, this is not a happy accident but rather a calculated decision on the chain's behalf...
Regardless of the meal size you opt for from Five Guys, you can always expect to receive a whopping portion of chips with your burger - big enough that they often spill over their cardboard carton and onto the tray.
Apparently, the reason for the chip overload is that the chain figured out customers feel far more fulfilled when they've gorged on a decent portion of chips, often feeling satisfied and like they've got more bang for their buck.
But it seems the joke is on us, as the extra fries have actually been factored into the chain's pricing.
According to Mashed, Five Guys founder Jerry Murrell has previously discussed why his chain dishes out so many extra fries, explaining: “People complain that they get too many fries. I just tell them to make hash browns with the leftovers. I teach my managers that if people aren't complaining, then you're not giving them enough." It's true; sometimes the mountain of chips can leave us defeated and unable to finish them - but personally that's something we'll never complain about!

Diners have definitely picked up on the generous portions, with one social media user tweeting last year: "Yeah Five Guys might be abit expenny but swear they give you enough chips to feed a family of 4 for about three weeks in them bags," - see, their tactic works!
Another tweeted a photo of the amount of chips that spilled over its carton, asking in disbelief: "How are these guys making any money!"
But not all have been taken in by the strategy, with one user replying to a tweet calling the chain an 'overpriced McDonald's' by agreeing: "Whenever I say this to Five Guys fans they always say 'But what about the chips?' as if having a few kilos of soggy fries makes it all better."
