Woman Makes History As First Victoria's Secret Model With Down's Syndrome

Sofia Jirau has made history after becoming the first Victoria's Secret model with Down's syndrome.

The 25-year-old from Puerto Rico recently modelled for the brand's Love Cloud Collection on Valentine's Day, joining 17 other women on the campaign.

Taking to Instagram to announce the news, Jirau wrote: “One day I dreamed it, I worked for it and today it’s a dream come true.

“I can finally tell you my big secret… I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down Syndrome! Thank you all for always supporting me in my projects.

“This is just the beginning, now it’s formed! Inside and out there are no limits.”

Jirau first debuted as a model in 2019, aged 23, where she modelled for New York Fashion Week. On her website, she describes feeling 'proud as one of the few models with Down syndrome who has managed to participate in the important fashion event'.

She goes on to say that she is 'currently focused on conquering the runways in Europe in 2022'.

"For me, the most important thing about fulfilling my dreams is to show people around the world that there are no limits and to inspire them to pursue their own dreams. This is why I always say 'Inside and out there are no limits' to motivate people to break through their self-imposed limitations," Jirau writes.

Jirau's debut for the lingerie, clothing, and beauty retailer comes as it is undergoing a rebrand, following widespread criticism for perpetuating unrealistic beauty standards.

In January, Raul Martinez became Victoria's Secret's creative director, with the Love Cloud collection (featuring Jirau) being the first campaign from the brand since he took the role.

Speaking on the collection, Martinez said:  "Love Cloud Collection is a major moment in the brand's evolution.

"From the cast of incredible women that bring the collection to life, to the incredible inclusive spirit on set, this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria's Secret standard we are creating."
