A Game Of Thrones Movie Is Officially In The Works At Warner Bros
The adaptation will be set 300 years before the TV show...
Just when the emotional damage of Game of Thrones was becoming a distant memory, it seems that Westeros is pulling us back in, but this time, it’s heading to the big screen.
Warner Bros is officially developing a brand-new Game of Thrones film - and it sounds like it could be huge. We’re talking dragons, battles and a story big enough to rival Dune-style cinema spectacle.
According to early reports, the film will focus on Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros, the legendary campaign that united six of the Seven Kingdoms around 300 years before the events of the original TV series. If you’re a fan of Targaryens, power struggles and epic world-building, this could be one to watch.
Screenwriter Beau Willimon, who is best known for his work on House of Cards and Andor, has been brought in to write the script, adapting the story from George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe. It’s still early days, but expectations are already sky-high.

Meanwhile, George R.R. Martin is still working on The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. Yes, that one. The one fans have been patiently (and sometimes impatiently) waiting for.
Since Game of Thrones ended, studios have been racing to expand the world of Westeros. The prequel series House of the Dragon has already proved there’s still plenty of appetite for dragons and political drama, with season three set to arrive soon. More recently, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been winning praise from critics and fans alike, proving there’s still plenty of life left in the franchise.
There have been plenty of ideas floating around too. A Jon Snow sequel series starring Kit Harington was once in development but has since been shelved after creators struggled to find the right story. There were also plans for an animated spinoff exploring the legendary Nine Voyages, although updates on that project have been quiet.
And if screen adaptations aren’t enough, Westeros is heading to the stage as well. A new Game of Thrones theatre production is set to premiere this summer with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon - because apparently dragons belong in live theatre now too.
Between new shows, stage productions and now a feature film, it’s clear that the world of Westeros isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Whether you’re a longtime fan or someone who somehow avoided spoilers the first time round, there’s never been a better time to dive back in.
Now all we need is The Winds of Winter… no pressure, George.
