Dust down your flat caps, Netflix has released a first look at Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby ahead of the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie.

Following the show’s finale back in April 2022, it was confirmed by series creator and writer Steven Knight that he would be finishing the Shelby story in a feature length format - with the project later being picked up by Netflix.

And it finally seems like things are happening on the project, as Netflix has shared images of Murphy and Knight together as well as one of the the actor in character.

LOOKING FOR GREAT DISCOUNTS ON STREAMING?

Taking to X, the streamer wrote: "By order of the Peaky Blinders... Tommy Shelby is back. Cillian Murphy and Steven Knight are reunited on set as production officially starts on the upcoming Netflix film."

While the photos don’t give much away, eagle-eyed fans did notice one difference from the photo, as a now greying Shelby appears to have finally ditched his 'short back and sides' haircut for a less drastic look.

“Rip to the Tommy Shelby cut you will be missed by everyone but Cillian Murphy," one person replied, while a second simply added: “TOMMY’S HAIR????”

So, what do we know about the Peaky Blinders film?

Not much to be honest! We know it’s being directed Tom Harper, will see the story go - in Knight’s own words - ‘into and beyond the Second World War’.

In a statement shared by Netflix, Harper said: “There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew. “We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.”

It's currently reported, as per Deadline, that Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan and Tim Roth will be joining Murphy, however any details about their characters are yet to be revealed.

As for a release date, nothing has been confirmed yet. However, as production has only just got underway it's likely that we won't see the film until late 2025 at the earliest.

"I'm thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II,” said Knight. “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
