Balamory is officially back — and our inner child is screaming
If you suddenly found yourself humming “What’s the story in Balamory?” this week, trust us, you’re not the only one. The iconic CBeebies favourite is officially making its comeback 21 years after it last aired, and honestly, this might be the most wholesome reboot news of 2026.
The revival is keeping everything that made the original such a comfort-watch classic: the familiar pastel houses, the community feel, the catchy songs you still somehow know every word to, and of course, the sense that every tiny problem can be solved in under 15 minutes. For anyone who grew up rushing home for after school episodes, it’s a serious nostalgia hit.

Even better, some of the show’s most beloved characters are returning. Miss Hoolie, PC Plum, Penny Pocket and Edie McCredie are all back, with the original cast reprising their roles. That means more village mysteries, more nursery chaos, and probably more accidental ear worms from songs that have been living in the back of our minds since the early 2000s.
But this isn’t just a straight copy-and-paste reboot. The BBC is also introducing a few new residents to shake things up, including Ava Potts, the scientist and inventor daughter of Archie, plus Dr Ollie, the village’s new vet, and a comedy-loving Harbour Master. It sounds like the perfect balance of old-school comfort and fresh storylines.

For Gen Z and younger millennials, Balamory sits right in that golden era of kids’ TV that practically raised us. Its return taps perfectly into the current nostalgia obsession, where childhood comfort shows are having a huge comeback moment across streaming platforms.
And honestly, in between dissertation deadlines, part-time jobs and the endless chaos of doomscrolling, escaping back to Tobermory’s rainbow-coloured streets feels weirdly ideal.
So yes, your childhood comfort show is back. And yes, you’ll probably still know every word to the theme tune.
The new series lands on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer on 20 April, bringing the brightly coloured island back for a whole new generation.
