People Warned About Five ‘Dangerous’ Foods You Should Never Cook In An Air Fryer
I mean, these mostly seem like common sense...
While it may often seem like there’s nothing you can’t cook in an air fryer, it seems like some people may be taking the hype a little too far…
There’s no denying that air fryers have become the must-have kitchen gadget of the last few years, spawning a whole new market in cookbooks, dedicated social media channels and even a tv series (cheers Jamie).
Compact, versatile, healthy, fast - and not to mention cost-cutting - there’s little they can’t do, however, for a few things you’re going to have to put the air fryer away for the night.

A list recently published by The Express has warned against the five most 'dangerous' foods to cook in your trusty air fryer… To be honest, most of these seem like common sense, but there you go!

1. Too much sauce
Any food that is too saucy is a big no for the air fryer. This includes things like chilli, spaghetti bolognese, stews - anything with a high liquid content basically!
This is because the sauce gets splashed all through the interior, which not only causes a mess, but can also be dangerous!
2. Wet Batter
It seems obvious, but an air fryer is not the same as a deep fat fryer, so filling up your air fryer with oil is definitely to be avoided!
But this absence of hot oil means that popping your battered bit of cod in is likely just going to create a mess, which again, can cause damage to your fryer, putting it out of action.
However, if it’s crispy breadcrumbed food you’re after, the air fryer is the perfect gadget for this, giving you maximum crunch!
3. Popcorn
When movie night rolls around, it might seem like the perfect use for the air fryer, but don’t be fooled!
The problem with this one is that air fryers don't get as hot as a pot of oil, meaning your corn kernels won't fully pop. Bu even worse than having unpopped popcorn, is that the kernels can get lodged in the mechanism of the air fryer, meaning it could short circuit and become a fire hazard - which is not what you want.
4. Tiny trees
It’s not exactly dangerous, but you want your top tier vegetables to remain top tier. From roasting to steaming, there are just so many delicious ways to cook your broccoli that turning it into a limp, lifeless stalk in your air fryer is not only unnecessary, it’s a sin.

5. Not all carbs…
While there’s no denying that the air fryer is a dab hand at roast potatoes, when it comes to your other staple carbs, it’s not the one. Pasta and rice are nigh-on impossible to cook in there, so just stick to some water and a saucepan or if you’re feeling fancy, and you like a gadget, treat yourself to a rice cooker!
You can however use your air fryer to reheat pasta and rice dishes if you don’t have a microwave!
