This New Cat-Friendly Desk Design Has Gone Viral
They'll probably still sit on your keyboard...
If you’ve ever tried to work from home with a cat, you’ll know the struggle is very real. One minute you’re replying to emails, the next your keyboard has become a runway, your mouse is a toy and your laptop is officially a nap spot.
But now the internet thinks it may have found the purr-fect solution. A clever cat-friendly desk design has gone viral on social media after a video showed how it lets you work while your cat happily hangs out inside the desk itself!
The clip, which has now been shared widely online, shows a wooden desk with built-in holes and tunnels underneath the surface, giving curious cats their own mini playground while you get on with your work. Think of it as a tiny feline adventure park… disguised as office furniture.
The design is based on something called the CATable, created by Hong Kong designer Ruan Hao. At first glance it looks like a pretty standard wooden desk. Look a little closer, though, and you’ll spot a network of circular holes cut through the surface, which connect to tunnels and little hideouts underneath.

While you try and get on with your work, your cat can crawl through the tunnels, pop their head up through the holes, or curl up underneath for a nap. Basically: entertainment for them, fewer keyboard invasions for you.
The designer described the idea as ‘a table for us, and a paradise for cats’ as anyone with a feline roommate will know that cats have an almost supernatural ability to appear exactly where they’re least helpful. Writing an essay? Cat on the keyboard. Editing a spreadsheet? Cat sitting directly on the mouse.
The viral desk taps into that reality by providing the one thing cats love most - somewhere interesting to explore.
Cats are naturally curious animals, so those tunnels and peek-through holes turn your desk into a little puzzle for them to investigate. And if it keeps them occupied while you finish that assignment or deadline, it’s basically a productivity hack.

Unsurprisingly, the video showing the desk in action has been racking up views, with cat owners declaring it the ultimate work-from-home setup. Others joked that the design perfectly captures the reality of sharing a workspace with a pet - you may think you bought the desk for yourself, but the cat clearly thinks it belongs to them, which, let’s face it, is probably accurate.
Between remote work, gaming setups and aesthetic desk tours on TikTok, people are always looking for ways to upgrade their workspace, and if you’re a cat owner, this might just be the most relatable office upgrade yet.
They’ll probably still choose to sit on your laptop though.
