With those dark evenings closing in and temperatures dropping across the UK, many people are already looking to jet off for a bit of winter sun.

While some people do enjoy the cosiness of autumn, if you can already feel your mood starting to take a turn for the worse thanks to the UK winter fats appearing on the horizon, why not treat yourself to a budget break in a city dubbed ‘the garden of Europe’ thanks to the fact that many of the foods you’ll find on your supermarket shelves are grown there?

Also known for having round the clock sunshine, boasting 300 days without rain every year and temperatures that stay in the mid 20°Cs deep into the autumn (with lows of 15°C) it’s the perfect choice to warm your bones.

And with Ryanair currently offering flights there from a number of UK airports for less than £15, and easyJet going slightly pricier at £22 (at time of writing) it could actually be affordable to throw in a little extra trip this year!

So where is this mythical destination? The Spanish city of Murcia hardly ha the reputation of Barcelona, Madrid or other coastal locations like Alicante, Marbella, Malaga, and Valencia, but it is a stunning city that is definitely worth your time and money.

Located slightly inland, Murcia sits in the south-eastern corner of Spain between Alicante to the north and Certagena to the south.

It's less than 40 minutes from the city centre to the coast where you can enjoy the region's stunning beaches and it’s also close to the beautiful Cabo de Palos peninsula that boasts some of the best scuba diving in the region.

And with Murcia International Airport just 20 minutes away, the city is super convenient for international travellers.

Right now, in the first week of November, temperatures in the city are still hitting 23°C, showing just how warm the city stays during the autumn.

The average price for a large beer is around €2-€3, and the area boasts stunning cycling and kayaking routes for those who like an active break.

But one of the city’s biggest attractions is the Christ of Monteagudo, a huge statue of Jesus located on top of the Castle of Monteagudo - a must visit if you head to the area.

Flights to Murcia from the UK are currently available from a number of airports including Bournemouth, Glasgow, East Midlands, Birmingham, and London Luton.
