Where To Go For Winter Sun In 2026: 5 Top Trip Picks

It's time to wave goodbye to the last throes of summer 2025, as the autumnal weather and dark evenings are now well and truly upon us. Now, that’s not to say that we don’t love the change in the seasons and there’s a huge amount to be said for snuggly jumper weather, of course… but the warm rays of the sun are going to be sorely missed.

If, like us, you’re finding it hard to acclimatise to the dark days of autumn, what about whisking yourself off on an adventure over the next few weeks or months, travelling somewhere lovely and warm so you can feel the sun on your skin once more.

But where to go? It’s a big wide world out there and your options are limitless, so to prevent paralysis of action, we thought we’d count down some of our very favourite holiday destinations for winter sun that might just float your proverbial boat.

1. Malta

If it’s guaranteed winter sun you’re after, then Malta would be a most excellent choice indeed as it’s the sunniest country in the whole of Europe!

Temperatures are mild at this time of year, between 16 and 18 degrees C, which is perfect for exploring the great outdoors… plus it’s out of season, so you won’t be surrounded by other people who all have the same idea.

Top sights to see include the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, the stunning Dingli Cliffs, Buskett Gardens for some rest and relaxation, the Roman catacombs at Rabat, the capital’s Cathedral of St John and the charming streets of Mdina.

There are some wonderful winter festivals to enjoy, as well, including the Fairyland market in Valletta in December, the International Baroque Festival in January and the Feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck in February.

2. Morocco

Another great choice for some sunshine at this time of year is Morocco, just a short four-hour flight away! Top banana!

Head to the south coast and places like Agadir, where you’ll find some beautiful sandy beaches to explore (with plenty of watersports to try your hand at), as well as Paradise Valley, which is home to some incredible waterfalls and hiking opportunities aplenty.

3. Tenerife

If you’re looking for somewhere a little bit further afield, then you could certainly do a lot worse than the Caribbean, which is warm, sunny and dry from November right up until March… so you’ve got plenty of time to plan your trip and get more sunshine in your life.

You’ll have your pick of different islands too so you could return time and time again, and enjoy something completely different on every visit.
