Driving Instructor Explains Common Road Sign That People Still Don't Know The Meaning Of

For many drivers, there's one common road sign that often leaves them confused.

Thankfully, driving instructor Annie is here to shed some light on the matter - not all heroes wear capes.

The theory test expert recently explained what the somewhat ambiguous road sign means in a TikTok published to her 776,000 followers.

The confusing sign in question reads: "Mon-Sat 8am-6pm 1 hour No return within 1 hour."

Standing in front of the sign, Annie says:  "I've been asked to explain signs like this one.

"This sign is saying that between Monday and Saturday, you can park between 8 o'clock in the morning and 6 o'clock at night, but only for one hour.

"No return within one hour - that simply means that you're not allowed to drive out of your parking space, drive around the block, and go straight back into that parking space.

"Well, not for an hour anyway."

In the video's caption, she added:  "At other times you can park for as long as you want to." So, essentially, the 'no return within one hour' rule only applies between the hours of 8am-6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Ahhh, it all makes sense now.

TikTok users flooded the comments to share their thoughts, admitting that they'd never quite understood what the sign was saying.

Some were convinced the 'No return within 1 hour' rule was implying the driver couldn't return to their vehicle before an hour was up and that the rule was attempting to prevent short-term stays.

But this wouldn't add up given the sign clearly states '1 hour' before this rule, instructing the driver that they can't stay parked there for any longer than an hour.

One TikToker commented on Annie's helpful video: "I always thought no return within 1 hour meant your [sic] not allowed to come back to the car for at least an hour lol."

Another driver similarly joked: "I always thought it meant you couldn't leave for one hour after parking."

Well, at least we're all clued up now...
